Super Mario Bros.
Mario and Luigi, plumbers from Brooklyn, find themselves in an alternate universe where evolved dinosaurs live in hi-tech squalor. They're the only hope to save our universe from invasion by the dino dictator, Koopa.
Super Mario Bros. (1993), directed by Annabel Jankel & Rocky Morton, 30th anniversary Umbrella 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical Dolby Stereo, four commentary tracks, RiffTrax riff commentary, Jaboody Dubs riff commentary, and subtitles in nine languages.
IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108255/
Video encoded in two-pass 14.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Text subtitles converted to SRT, image subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : Reject modernity, embrace tradition, or however that goes, we're going back to the nineties, when you could make a beloved videogame property into a film that had very little to do with the original, or indeed sense at all, but had a lot of insanity and an unrelenting pace. To be fair, it looks great, the practical effects are amazing, some of the CGI is not entirely janky, and the casting is, well, it's kind of inspired, with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, Samantha Mathis, and even Lance Henriksen in a tiny role. It's not good, of course, but it might be more entertaining than you remember.
So a meteor, right, crashed into Earth 65 million years ago, but it didn't really kill all the dinosaurs, it split reality into two parallel universes, one where dinosaurs survived and one where they didn't. In 1973, a woman leaves a mysterious egg with some nuns, and it hatches a baby girl. In early nineties Brooklyn, two plumbers, Mario and Luigi Mario, are in conflict with a mafioso's construction company when they meet Daisy, an archaeology student who's for some reason digging for dinosaur bones under the Brooklyn Bridge, and Luigi instantly falls in love. However, there's an interdimensional portal in the tunnel Daisy's been digging, some people get kidnapped to the parallel universe, including Daisy, King Koopa huffs nitrous for some reason, and there's a very cute dinosaur, also Fiona Shaw is kind of hot, and there's a big showdown involving dumb guns and "devolution". Yeah, it doesn't make much sense.
A great 4k remaster here, honestly, with excellent, filmic color that never the less has a lot of pop, great contrast, subtle grain, and nice detail. 5.1 remaster sounds very good, the original Dolby Stereo as well, four regular commentary tracks should be more than enough, and both the RiffTrax and Jaboody tracks are pretty funny.
Hot tip
