This is the first, shorter, silent version of the film, made in the USA.

There are two versions of this film. The first was filmed in Yoko Ono's New York apartment at 1 West 100th Street with the help of her first husband, Tony Cox, and Jeff Perkins. The second, filmed in London in her friend Victor Musgrave's apartment, is longer and used a more sophisticated apparatus, allowing her to better control -the close-ups, framing only the buttocks. The London version is accompanied by dubious comments by the participants and non-participants and by excerpts of the media coverage generated by the film's shooting, as well as a discussion with Ono. This version is the first of these, shot in New York, as the list of actors designates that city's tribe of artists. In this film appear the buttocks of Susannah Campbell, Philip Corner, Anthony Cox, Bici Hendricks, Geoffrey Hendricks, Kyoko Ono (Yoko's daughter), Yoko Ono, Ben Patterson, Jeff Perkins, Susan Poland, Jerry Sablo, Carolee Schneeman, James Tenney, Pieter Vanderbeck and Verne Williams.

Also known as Bottoms, Four is, according to Yoko Ono, a socially- engaged film for peace. In it we see an endless inventory of bottoms, close-ups of famous artists. The initial plan was to film 365 bottoms in the spirit of a calendar. This joke expresses an antibourgeois and nonconformist ideology. Yoko Ono has said: "this film in fact is like an aimless petition signed by people with their anuses." Though at first glance it may seem like fraud or provocation fueled by 1960's utopia, Four proves to be the end result of a conceptual approach. The title is related to the picture tautologically. Indeed, if Four denotes Yoko Ono's fourth film, it also heralds the film's visual and formal aspect, a succession of buttocks in motion, framed tight to create a moving composition divided in four morphological segments.
