U Turn
When Bobby's car breaks down in the desert while on the run from some of the bookies who have already taken two of his fingers, he becomes trapped in the nearby small town where the people are stranger than anyone he's encountered. After becoming involved with a young married woman, her husband hires Bobby to kill her. Later, she hires Bobby to kill the husband.
U Turn (1997), directed by Oliver Stone, hybrid remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical 5.1, two commentary tracks, and subtitles in English, French, and German.

Note : The 90s were undoubtedly Oliver Stone's decade, and although this is one of his minor films, it's not without its upsides. It's the kind of relentlessly nasty little noir crime thriller where ugly people do ugly shit to each other, everyone has an ulterior motive, everyone's worst qualities are on display, and no one comes out clean, and it's gleefully transgressive. The visuals, shot on reversal film, giving it a grainy, blown-out, hypersaturated look not unlike early digital, occasionally look very good, but most of the time are just an assault on the retinas, combined with the typical Stone hyperactive montages. It sports a cast of good actors who weren't afraid to make themselves look bad, lead by Sean Penn, as an asshole who gets into so much shit you can't help but feel sorry for him, Nick Nolte, displaying the worst O-face in film history, Jennifer Lopez, giving an ok performance and getting naked at least once, although this film is profoundly unsexy, Joaquin Phoenix in a small role as an absolutely unredeemable douche, Claire Danes as an annoing Lolita, Powers Boothe as a sleazy, corrupt sheriff, Billy Bob Thornton as the most repulsive slob to ever marry Angelina Jolie, and Jon Voight as, uh, a Native American? It was the 90s, I guess.
Bobby is deeply in debt to the Russian mob, and is running away to nowhere in particular when his red Mustang convertible breaks down in a small shithole town in Arizona. While he waits for the local dirt-caked mechanic to very slowly fix his car, he runs into Jake and Grace McKenna, a father and his stepdaughter who are also married. Both of them separately approach Bobby to kill the other for money. Bobby confesses to Jake that Grace wanted him dead, but as he starts finding Grace attractive, he's considering maybe helping her instead. In the meantime, the various weirdo inhabitants of the town make life difficult for Bobby, who gets more and more desperate to get out, while both the mob, the locals, and the McKenna's put the pressure on.
This is a pretty good remaster of a weird and not entirely great looking film, but I think it's pretty faithful, grain, blown-out highlights and all. The 5.1 track sounds good, both commentary tracks are interesting.
