Note : It was 1993, and UFOs and alien abductions were seriously geisting the zeit. This led to a series of popular media based on the concept, most notably The X-Files, but the same year as that show started, this film came out, purportedly based on a true story about an alien abduction incident from 1975. It's twaddle, of course, but it's pretty tense and creepy, with some good performances by D. B. Sweeney and Robert Patrick, a few very cool setpieces, and beautiful cinematography by Bill Pope, who had just shot Army of Darkness, and would later do the Matrix trilogy, Spider-Man 2 and 3, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Well worth watching, maybe in a double feature with Communion.
A group of loggers in Arizon rush back into town at night, missing one man, Travis Walton. In their statements to the police, they claim to have encounted a UFO which seemingly killed Walton with a bright beam of light, causing the others to flee. No trace can be found of Walton, and law enforcement suspects foul play, leading to the loggers becoming outcasts. Five days later, Walton turns up naked, traumatized, and disoriented at a gas station miles away, and when he gets out of the hospital and the town throws a party for him, he suffers severe flashbacks and realizes what had really happened to him. The morale of the story: Don't go logging with the T-1000 Series Advanced Prototype.
This is a quite nice 4k remaster, with tight, subtle grain, good contrast and color, showing off a lot of foggy nights with shafts of light, and decent fine detail. 5.1 remaster sounds good too, as does the stereo, director's commentary worth listening to.
