Note : Let's do some franchises out of order, since I know you guys love that! What the hell, it's Halloween month, this remux just popped up, and I've seen this film requested, so, here's Wes Craven making a horror movie about horror movies, a sort of meta-narrative where the fiction becomes reality and... no, not that one. But the seeds of that are in this, and this is quite good on its own, with the whole gang returning and being good sports about playing themselves, and pretty good tight script, fun effects, a few good kills, and nice imagery. It's not really scary, but it's fun and very clever. Also, Heather Langenkamp is really gorgeous in this, and well supported by Craven himself, HeVK MVP John Saxon, Robert Englund, and a few others in minor roles, even a couple of the producers.
Heather Langenkamp, famous for playing Nancy in the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, lives in Los Angeles with her husband, an FX makeup artist, and their young son. She's having nightmares of strange and deadly things happening on the set of a new Nightmare film, and right after, she meets with a producer who pitches her on returning to the film series. When her son has an extreme reaction to watching the first film in the series, she calls her husband, who rushes home, but falls asleep behind the wheel, crashes and dies. His body has strange slash marks, and she starts having visions and nightmares of Freddy attacking her son, as his health deteriorates and people around her start suspecting her sanity...
This remaster is nothing special, but it looks pretty good, decently defined but not too prominent grain, good contrast and color, maybe slightly dark at times and unfortunately 16:9 full frame, but generally quite good. 5.1 track is good, director's commentary very worth listening to.
