The Witch
New England in the 1630s: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life with five children, homesteading on the edge of an impassable wilderness. When their newborn son vanishes and crops fail, the family turns on one another. Beyond their worst fears, a supernatural evil lurks in the nearby wood.
The Witch (2015), directed by Robert Eggers, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical 5.1, director's commentary track, and subtitles in English and Spanish.

Note : Of course sooner or later we had to get around to the film that kicked off the recent folk horror boom, and although it was badly advertised at the time, it's truly excellent, an ominous slow burn of creeping dread, merciless wilderness, religious fanaticism, and interfamily resentment. Production design, performances, and visuals are uniformly great. It instantly made a star out of the now-ubiquitous Anya Taylor-Joy, launched the career of director Robert Eggers, and put distributor A24 firmly on the map as a distributor of unusual independent film and artsy horror. Not bad for an almost tediously historically accurate film about 17th century puritans and one very naughty goat.
William and his family are too puritan even for the puritans, and so they're banished from their native settlement. They build a farm in a clearing near a dark forest, and get on with puritan pastimes such as having a fifth child and walking outside in the freezing rain. When infant Samuel mysteriously disappears while in teenaged daughter Thomasin's care, mother Katherine goes into a tailspin, preteen son Caleb wonders if his unbaptized brother went to heaven, and young twins Mercy and Jonas start spending an unhealthy amount of time with the farm's ominous goat, Black Phillip, who they claim talks to them. Things get worse when Caleb is seduced by a mysterious young woman in the woods and comes back home deathly ill, and Katherine blames Thomasin for everything. As you might suspect, this story doesn't really end very well for anyone, as often happens to people in cabins in woods.
As usual with newer films, this is a very high quality Blu-Ray, with a subtle grain structure, showing off the often very dark, desaturated, and low-contrast, but very pretty, cinematography. I erred on the side of safety on the bitrate here to make sure details in the shadows were not lost. 5.1 track is also pretty much perfect, and the director's commentary track gives a lot of information about the production process, which sounds pretty grueling.
