My Bloody Valentine
Twenty years ago in the sleepy mining town of Valentine Bluffs, a fatal mining disaster occurred on Valentine's Day while some of the crew was decorating for a party. The sole survivor of the accident killed the remaining crewmembers and warned the town not to celebrate Valentine's Day again. When a group of teenagers decides to defy that order, a murderous maniac in mining gear begins dispatching townsfolk in bloody and creative ways.
My Bloody Valentine (1981), directed by George Mihalka, unrated director's cut, Shout! Factory 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, commentary track, and subtitles in English and Spanish.

English subtitles OCRed, proofed and corrected. English SDH and Spanish subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : After we did The Prowler a few weeks ago, it was probably inevitable that we also got to this, another classic 1981 slasher with a very similar plot, although apparently, the two films were made independently and there's no influence of one on the other. Be that as it may, I think this is the better of the two, a nasty little story with a bunch of fairly gruesome kills and an infamous twist ending. Shot in and around a real mine in Nova Scotia, Canada, the working class atmosphere and conflict feels pretty authentic, the characters aren't incredibly complex, but they're relatable and feel real, and the kills, as mentioned, are inventive, gory, and mean-spirited. A very worthy entry in the 80s slasher canon.
In a small mining town on the coast, twenty years ago, an explosion in the mine where the supervisors had gone to the party trapped five miners for weeks, the only survivor resorting to cannibalism and going insane. The year after, he came back and murdered the supervisors, warning the town to never hold a Valentine's day party again, before he was locked in an asylum and forgotten about. Now, the town has decided to hold a Valentine's day dance again for the first time in twenty years. However, when people in the town get mysteriously murdered and boxes of Valentine's candy with human hearts in them start showing up, the police chief and the mayor suspect the killer has broken out of the asylum, but are unable to get information of him from the authorities, and they decide to cancel the dance. The town's young people, including the mayor's rebellious son who has just come back from an unsuccessful attempt at making it in the big city, however, have other plans, and decide to throw a secret party of their own at the same mine where the accident happened all those years ago...
This is a nice 4k remaster, decent grain, nice color, saturation and black levels where they should be, all in all not much to complain about. Both 5.1 remaster and the original stereo sound good, and the commentary track is informative.
