Note : I assume there are few horror fans who aren't familiar with this movie, although I hadn't seen it in a good while. The world's first encounter with possessed doll Chucky holds up pretty well, kept together by Brad Dourif's always great performance, first in person for a brief prelude, then as a voice actor. Chris Sarandon and Catherine Hicks are good too, and Alex Vincent as Andy is one of only a few non-grating child actors (he's on one of the commentary tracks as an adult, which is entertaining). You probably know what you're getting here, but if you haven't seen it, you really should, it's an essential.
This remaster is quite good, given the not fantastic original cinematography, though perhaps a little grainier than was strictly necessary, and the 5.1 upmix also sounds great. The commentary tracks are gold, though, with lots of lots of details about the production, the effects (which again, still hold up really well), and the "select scene commentary with Chucky" is surprisingly funny, with Brad Dourif taking a very dry tone. All in all, everything you could want from a remaster of this movie.
