Building an Ubuntu Server
Course details
Building and hosting your own server at home or in the office is a great way to learn about system configuration and administration, and also provides an opportunity to maintain control of your files and services. Servers are often used to provide services like file sharing and web hosting, and can be used for running containers, virtual machines, and other development tools. In this course, Scott Simpson demonstrates how to set up a Linux server using Ubuntu, and provides an introduction to system administration. He discusses storage and network configuration, gives advice on what kind of hardware to use, and surveys popular services that home and business users frequently require. At the end of this course, you’ll have the tools and knowledge to build a working server of your own.
Building an Ubuntu server
“ - [Instructor] Building a server for home use or for use in an organization is a great way to learn about system configuration and administration and provides an opportunity to maintain control of your files and services. I'm Scott Simpson. And in this LinkedIn Learning Course, we'll set up a Linux computer to manage media, file sharing and self hosted cloud services. We'll use Ubuntu Server, a very popular distribution of Linux. And along the way, I'll show you some system administration basics including how to set up new software, how to add hard drives, how to configure the network and firewall and we'll see how to allow your server to provide services. You can access from your smartphone, your tablet or a computer inside or outside your network. In the course, I'll make some recommendations for hardware that's worked out well for me. But I encourage you to look for hardware that fits your budget and requirements. You could even dust off that old PC tower that's been hiding in your closet since your last upgrade. Whether you're building a lab server as a platform for developing your skills or setting up a server that will provide reliable service for you or for others. I hope you'll join me in this LinkedIn Learning Course. Let's go.
