This single collection is really nothing new for Beloved fans. It concentrates on the band once they had changed their direction and become more synth/electronic based. Portraying itself as an album of singles then, it misses out some of the glorious tracks they did before. The singles from just three albums are complied here (Happiness, Conscience and X For completists the harder to get hold of 'Where It Is' features some of the classic earlier works (and it is well worth it).
In some senses, the Beloved did a bit of a New Order, transforming themselves from a guitar based sound into dance music. But, unfortuantely well underrated, they never reached the dizzy heights of Sumner and Hooky and the other two.
Some of their better know singles are here. 'The Sun Rising', once a well known club tune starts the album off with a bang. 'Sweet Harmony' was an excellent single and for me has everything you could want in a track. Some of the other tracks are a bit cheesy (You've got me thinking). 'Hello' steals the prize though, this depeche mode like anthem stomping all over your personal jesus.
So, this album is a good one, but flawed in that it misses some of the Beloved's finer, earlier moments. When you listen, just be a bit wary. And then go and buy the back catalogue. (Customer from Amazon)
